SUCCESFUL BREAKFAST LAUNCHING INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON ROAD FINANCING
Last Friday May 16, an informational breakfast took place at Plaza San Francisco Hotel, launching the International Seminar on Road Financing, which will take place in Santiago, Chile, on July 9 and 10.

This encounter brought together an important number of authorities from the Chilean Ministry of Public Works, professionals and academics related to the issue, along with eminent representatives from the public and private sectors, sharing a common central interest in the improvements on Road Financing.
The meeting provided first hand information to leaders from the private sector directly related with Road Financing, among them the Chilean Construction Chamber, Concessionaries, Mining, Forestry and Consulting companies, plus financing entities and international organizations such as BID, CAF y CEPAL.

First opening, the General Director of the Ministry of Public Works, Mr. Javier Osorio, emphasized the necessary convergence to be attained between investment through the Public Works and the main lines of action in the Government’s Program. He also invited the present ones to participate in the coming International Seminar on Road Financing, in which developments and innovations favoring better infrastructure financing will be presented

Next, the Coordinator of Public Works Concessions, Mr. Eric Martin, in his presentation “Contributing Value for Equitable Development in the Country”, pointed out that concessions are to be projected as a solution oriented not only to benefit direct users and companies, but to also create sustainable value for communities nearby, with additional facilities as integral part of the concession, expanding the scope of the undertaking.

The National Road Director (D), Mr. Mario Anguita, on behalf of the Chilean First Delegate and Member of the Executive Committee of the World Road Association (PIARC) invited representatives from the public sector to participate not only in the construction but also in the maintenance industry, considering the stages of exploitation and operation of infrastructure. He underlined that the Chilean Road Directorate has developed co-financing systems since the last century.

The Coordinator of the ACCT Committee for Financing in Chile, Mr. Javier Velásquez, was in charge of highlighting the importance of the Seminar and its main issues, namely:
1) Diagnosis of the present Public and Private financing systems. 2) How to Improve Road Infrastructure Financing. 3) Financing Conservation, Exploitation and Service Standards. 4) The Experience of Private Financing. 5) Analysis of Experiences on Road Concessions to Public Private Association. And 6) Experts Pannel and Debate.

He also informed that a lecture will be presented on “Challenges for Road Infrastructure Financing until 2030” by former Chilean Public Works Ministry, Mr. Sergio Bitar.
Finally, the President of the Infrastructure Committee of the Professional Association of Engineers, and President (D) of the Chilean Road and Transport Association, Mr. Germán Millán, once mentioning that the Association now has its legal personality and extended the invitation to participate as attendees, supporters and sponsors in this Seminar. He also called those interested, to become active members at the Committee for Financing and of the Chilean Road and Transport Association.
